Just Hitchin' a Ride on the Harry Potter Knight Bus

This morning, I got up for school at about 5:30ish?  Got ready for the day, but then felt super sick after eating breakfast, so I went back to bed and slept for five or six more hours.  I felt a little better by lunch time (at which point Christina had returned and we had completed our homework for the day), so I had some soup and toast (and tums).  Then Christina and I headed out to the mall.  We decided to take the scenic route this time on the bus (okay, so really, we took the wrong bus.  Well, technically it was the right bus, just going the wrong way.  So it tacked on an extra 40 minutes to our bus ride, oops).

Though, I should say, I think I am officially going to start calling the buses the Harry Potter Knight Bus (HPKB) becauuuuse, riding these buses reminds me a lot of that scene in Harry Potter.  Course, today was better, but there was one bus ride about a week ago where I literally was like, "Did I just hitch a ride on the HPKB??"  The bus was cutting it super close with cars, stopping quickly (the brakes were super squeaky), driving fast, and maneuvering quickly (in a very skilled way actually).  I don't know if it was that particular bus driver, or if that was because that was the first time I paid attention to the road in front of me.  Maybe that's why all the passengers only look out the windows next to them, lol.  (Unfortunately the buses here aren't as cool as the HPKB).

I should just also comment - see the way Stan keeps his balance during this whole thing?  Let's just say, Harry Potter is how I look on these buses.  Stan is how all the locals look.  #gringoproblems

Moving on.  We finally made it to the mall (sweet, sweet, air conditioning), and went straight to the Cinemex to buy our tickets.  (Only 35 pesos - so cheap on Wednesdays!  Though Christina accidentally bought two at first - that guy was speaking super fast - but she went back and corrected it).  We found out that the next show wasn't for another 30 minutes, though, so we ended up looking around the mall for a little bit before going into the show (we got ice cream beforehand!  YUM).  We watched Mininos!  It was so funny.  But I think I only understood half of it because it was all in Spanish, lol.  Next time, I shall definitely watch it in English.

After the show, we looked around again for shoes (its always the shoes) before stepping into the grocery store (I had to buy some sunscreen and saltines).  Then we returned home by foot (we wanted to see how long it would take.  It only took about 30 minutes.  Not too bad since it was evening and not too hot).  We ended up taking this picture :)

Us being tourists (I'm sure all the drivers that saw us just shook their heads and muttered "gringos")

Such a beautiful sunset on our walk home!!

When we got home we had food :)  And guess what.  We had...hotdogs!!  Not so American now, eh?  And I just have to say...Mexican hotdogs are SO much better.  And I only had mayo and ketchup to go with it!

Of course, it was only AFTER I'd eaten it that I realized they do NOT refrigerate their mayo here *shudder*  So I took some pepto just in case *even bigger shudder*  See?

Bottoms up!

After that horrible experience (just kidding.  It wasn't too bad.  It tasted just like crushed up wintergreen mints.  But thicker.  And slimier).  Anyway.  After that, I put up my laundry and Christina and I watched a couple more episodes of Once Upon A Time.  #wereaddicted #totesokaywiththat

And now I am heading to bed!  Yay for...school...tomorrow... *facepalm*

'Til Tomorrow!

PS  Today I was in Sears (at the mall) looking at clothes, and one of the workers came up to me and tried to tell me something.  I laughed, blushed, then said in Spanish, "I'm sorry!"  And she said (also in Spanish), "You don't know what I'm saying do you?"  And I said, "I understand more or less."  But what's great is I understood the last thing she said to me as she was walking away!  #success.  Needles to say, this picture describes how I felt.

One of these days I'll understand...one of these days...

Also, Sears is one of those fancy stores here...what's with that??

PPS When the bus was stopped, we saw a dude doing tricks with a unicycle (throwing it in the air and stuff).  Then he bowed, and walked to the different cars for money (tips for his show). That was a first.

PPPS At the mall today, Christina and I had a moment like in those movies where one person is trying to find the other, but they keep walking around the pole (in this case, a random elevator box) at the same time to the other side (and miss each other completely).  Eventually Christina figured out what was going on and broke the chain, going round to the other side and finding me.  Needless to say, we laughed our heads off after the fact.  We had to wonder if anybody else caught us doing that and chuckled.  #daymade
